LeBron James reflects on surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most minutes played in NBA history, sharing that his teammates joked, "They told me I'm old as hell."
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James achieved another major milestone in his career on Thursday when his team defeated the Sacramento Kings 113-100.
James surpassed six-time NBA MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the player with the most minutes played in league history, amassing 57,447 minutes over 1,517 games.
"Well, one of the coaches came in and congratulated me. My teammates said f**k off," he said with a smile. "They told me I'm old as hell. It's a pretty cool honor. Obviously, anytime I'm linking with some of the greatest that ever played this game.

"I've been available to my teammates, I've been able to do this at a high level for two decades, and I continue to put myself in record books in this game of basketball that I love so much, and the best league in the world. It's pretty cool, and it's very humbling."
In addition to his record-setting 11,838 playoff minutes, James has played roughly 70,000 total minutes since entering the NBA as the No. 1 overall pick in 2003. This total is equivalent to 1,458 full games.
When asked whether he values the playoff minutes record more than the regular season total, LeBron replied:
"I mean, they both are special," LeBron said. "I mean, obviously, you set your mark and try to make things happen in the regular season to prepare for the postseason. It's all part of the process. I've been able to have some deep playoff runs and play some meaningful basketball games in my career into the postseason, so they both have a special meaning. You can't have one."
At 39 years old, James also holds the NBA records for career field-goal attempts and turnovers, while ranking fourth in assists, eighth in steals, and 29th in rebounds.
