The Philadelphia 76ers are optimistic about keeping Guerschon Yabusele this off-season despite the team's struggles this season. The 29-year-old has been a standout performer, averaging career-highs in points and rebounds.
The Philadelphia 76ers are optimistic about retaining Guerschon Yabusele when he becomes a free agent this summer.
Despite the team's struggles this season, including a 20-33 record and injuries to star player Joel Embiid, the Sixers see Yabusele as a key part of their future.
According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the team was reluctant to trade Yabusele before the trade deadline, signaling their intent to keep him long-term.
Sixers president Daryl Morey expressed confidence in retaining the forward, although acknowledging the uncertainties surrounding unrestricted free agents.
"I don’t think you can ever be confident in an unrestricted free agent, but we feel very good," Morey said.
"We love him. We just freed up more with Caleb Martin’s contract going out, we freed up more room for the future. So we feel very good about retaining Yabu," he added.
Yabusele, who is currently averaging career highs of 11.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2 assists in 26.8 minutes per game this season, has proven himself as a valuable asset for Philadelphia.
His strong performances come after his return to the NBA following a successful EuroLeague stint with Real Madrid.
The 29-year-old French forward is currently on a one-year, $2 million contract, and with his impressive play, multiple teams are expected to pursue him during free agency.
The 76ers stand 11th in the NBA Eastern Conference with a 20-33 record.
