Chicago Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball was forced to leave Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers after suffering a head laceration.
The team confirmed his absence for the rest of the contest via an official announcement on X (formerly Twitter), saying that he won't be able to return to the game.
Before exiting, Ball contributed with 6 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist in just 8 minutes of action while shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from the field.
Despite his early departure, the Bulls maintained control of the game, carrying a 9-point lead into the second half while dominating both ends of the floor.
Ball's career has been hampered by injuries, particularly the knee issues that kept him sidelined for the entire 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
His return to the court in October 2024 was a major milestone, but the 27-year-old is still working to regain his pre-injury form. Before Monday’s game, Ball was averaging 7.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 34.9% from the field and 33.1% from beyond the arc.
If Ball is forced to miss additional time, Chicago may look to Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, and Coby White to handle extra responsibilities in the backcourt.
The Bulls have already been hit hard by injuries, with key players such as Nikola Vucevic, Jalen Smith, Ayo Dosunmu, and Patrick Williams currently sidelined.
The Bulls will look to stay competitive as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday at home before hosting the Toronto Raptors on Friday.
