Two Indiana Pacers fans have filed a lawsuit against the Milwaukee Bucks and point guard Patrick Beverley after he threw a ball into the stands during an NBA playoff game last year at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as reported by FOX59.
The lawsuit, filed last Friday in Marion County Superior Court, claims that the fans suffered medical expenses, mental anguish, humiliation, and lost wages due to the incident, which occurred during the fourth quarter of the Bucks' 120-98 playoff loss to the Pacers on May 2, 2024.
Beverley, the Bucks organization, and former Milwaukee assistant coach Josh Oppenheimer are named as defendants in the suit.
Following the incident, the NBA issued a four-game suspension for Beverley. However, he has yet to serve the suspension after deciding to leave the Bucks in the 2024 offseason to play in Israel, though he recently departed from Hapoel Tel Aviv.
The NBA cited both the "forceful" ball-throwing incident and an "inappropriate interaction with a reporter during media availability" as reasons for the suspension. Beverley was not fined by the league for the incident.
