Joel Embiid has been ruled out for the 2024-25 season due to a left knee injury, with potential surgeries that could sideline him for over a year.

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has been ruled out for the season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

The Sixers officially confirmed this news and stated that Embiid will "focus on treatment and rehabilitation" for his left knee.

Embiid was weighing several treatment options for his left knee injury, including microfracture surgery, meniscus replacement, low-dose radiation therapy, and osteotomy.

Recovery timelines for these procedures range from six months to over a year, and any return to play could come with long-term limitations.

The 30-year-old has a long history of injuries and surgeries, including:

  • June 2014: Surgery for a stress fracture in his right foot.
  • August 2015: Surgery for a second stress fracture in the same foot, involving a bone graft from his hip.
  • February 2018: Surgery to repair a fractured orbital bone sustained during a game against the New York Knicks.
  • May 2022: Surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and an injury to his left index finger.
  • February 2024: Surgery to address a lateral meniscus injury in his left knee.

This season, Embiid averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over 19 games.
