Olympiacos Piraeus head coach Georgios Bartzokas addressed Keenan Evans' status ahead of the game against Alba Berlin, stating that Evans is primarily traveling with the team for practice, after which they will discuss his potential debut.
Keenan Evans is getting closer to making his debut with Olympiacos Piraeus after being sidelined for nearly a year due to a knee injury he suffered last May while playing for Zalgiris Kaunas.
He is traveling with the team to Germany for Friday’s game against Alba Berlin in Round 33 of the EuroLeague and will be included in team's lineup for the game.
However, as Olympiacos head coach Georgios Bartzokas stated before the team took off for Berlin, they don’t want to rush Evans’ return to the court. He emphasized that Evans is primarily making the trip for practice, and his status will be assessed afterward.
"He started group training this week. Theoretically, he should be able to play an official game in 10 days, after completing 2-3 weeks of team practices following a year-long absence," Bartzokas told Greek media before the game against Alba.
"He is traveling with us mainly for today’s practice, and we will all discuss, myself included, how he feels. He has been performing very well in training over the past week, but we don’t want to rush things because he also needs to feel psychologically ready," he explained.
In the previous EuroLeague season with Zalgiris, Evans averaged 17.3 points and 3.9 assists per game, establishing himself as one of the competition's top guards. His addition could be a major boost for this Olympiacos team.
