Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant said people will always find a way to spread negativity about him, but he no longer cares.
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant found himself in controversy once again after making a gun gesture toward Buddy Hield during a game against the Golden State Warriors. Hield responded in kind, prompting the NBA to review the incident and issue warnings to both players.
Just days later, Morant repeated the gesture during the Grizzlies' 110-108 win over the Miami Heat on Thursday night—despite already receiving a warning from the league.
After the game, Morant dismissed the criticism surrounding him, expressing frustration over the constant scrutiny.
"I've pretty much been a villain for two years now," Morant told The Athletic. "Every little thing—if someone can say something negative about me, it's going to be out there. Yeah, I don’t care anymore."
With the postseason approaching, the Grizzlies will need their star at his best. They currently sit sixth in the Western Conference with a 45-32 record, while Morant is leading the team with averages of 22.9 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game.
