Following an unsuccessful 2021-2022 EuroLeague season, Zalgiris Kaunas are paving the way for a more desirable result next year. The team has extended contracts with two of their main players - Edgaras Ulanovas and Lukas Lekavicius.
According to the club's announcement, the 30-year-old Ulanovas signed a new two-year contract that will see him in the club until the end of the 2023-2024 season. Lekavicius, on the other end, signed a new three-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
Lekavicius was the only Zalgiris player who averaged more than 10 points per game in the EuroLeague with a 10.2 point average in his account. The guard also averaged 4.2 assists and 10.9 PIR points per game.
Zalgiris Kaunas / Schedule
After a rough start to the season, Ulanovas blossomed in the second part of the EuroLeague year. The longtime Zalgiris forward was the key player during the recent months, with notable performances against FC Barcelona (16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals, 33 PIR) and Panathinaikos OPAP Athens (22 points, 4 rebounds, 29 PIR).
Overall, Ulanovas averaged 8.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 11.2 PIR points during the entire Euroleague season.
Zalgiris finished the season last in the standings with 8 wins and 20 losses in their account but finished the year with a stunning come-from-behind victory against Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in Kaunas to mark the end of an illustrious career of Paulius Jankunas.
