The Italian Basketball Federation is working to secure Donte DiVincenzo's participation in EuroBasket 2025.
The potential addition of Donte DiVincenzo to the Italian national basketball team has been a topic of discussion for some time, and it appears that the dream may finally become a reality.
According to Tuttosport, the Italian Basketball Federation is making efforts to convince the Minnesota Timberwolves guard to join the squad for the upcoming EuroBasket tournament.
DiVincenzo, who has completed the process for obtaining an Italian passport, had previously expressed interest in wearing the blue jersey during the 2024 Olympic Summer Games. Now, NBA sources suggest that the 28-year-old is still very much interested in representing Italy.
If Italy succeeds in securing DiVincenzo for their roster, it would be a major upgrade, as the former Villanova star is known for his strong defensive presence and ability to contribute on both ends of the floor.
The 6'3" guard would potentially take the place of a naturalized player, possibly John Petrucelli or Grant Basile, giving Italy a well-rounded and dynamic asset for their EuroBasket campaign.
DiVincenzo’s potential involvement with Italy has been discussed since November 2019 when the player first met with Salvatore Trainotti.
"Having DiVincenzo available wouldn’t be a bad thing," said coach Meo Sacchetti in December 2019. Since then, the topic has come up repeatedly, including during the Paolo Banchero case.
This season the 28-year-old guard averages 11 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 39.7% from the field.
