Slovenian basketball legend Goran Dragic has announced plans for a grand farewell game marking the conclusion of his 19-year career, Sport Klub writes.
The event, hosted by the company Spontanzo and the Goran Dragic Foundation, is set to unfold over two days in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, in August 2024, promising the presence of numerous basketball stars.
All the details regarding this farewell match will be unveiled during a press conference on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
Having last played on April 22, in the 2023 NBA Playoffs with the Milwaukee Bucks, Dragic wore the jersey in Game 3 against his former team, the Miami Heat, and marked the occasion by scoring the final two points from the free-throw line.
Since concluding the previous season, the 37-year-old Dragic has been a free agent.
Entering the NBA in 2008, Dragic was selected in the second round of the draft by the San Antonio Spurs, with his draft rights later traded to the Phoenix Suns.
Throughout his extensive NBA career, he has represented the Suns, Houston Rockets, Heat, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, and Bucks. Over 946 games (530 starts) and 15 seasons, Dragic boasts career averages of 13.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
Dragic, a recipient of the NBA Most Improved Player award in 2014 and an NBA All-Star in 2018, achieved the biggest win of his career in 2017 at FIBA EuroBasket. There, he clinched the gold medal with the Slovenian national team and earned MVP honors for his stellar performance.
The last appearance for Dragic with the Slovenian national team was at FIBA EuroBasket 2022, where Slovenia unexpectedly lost to Poland in the quarterfinals, ending their quest for back-to-back gold medals. In total, Dragic appeared in 90 international games for Slovenia.
